WHAT ARE PFAS?

PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) are water-resistant, oil- and heat-resistant, which is why they are also called forever chemicals. These chemicals are found in many industrial applications and everyday products such as coated pans, waterproof textiles, and grease-resistant packaging due to their technical properties.

PFAS are a large family of chemicals whose properties are particularly distinguished by the length of their carbon-fluorine chains. This chain length can influence how the substances behave in the environment and in the human body. Despite their widespread use, knowledge about the long-term effects of these substances is still limited. Studies suggest that some PFAS may have potentially harmful health effects.
